At Eagle Ridge Academy, the safety of our students and staff is a top priority. To learn more about our safety protocols, please review the information below.
How ERA keeps your student safe
Standard Response Protocols (SRPs)
Secure
If you've been notified your child's school is in a Secure, that means:
- Students and activities have been moved inside
- The building is locked
- Learning is continuing inside with minimal classroom interruption.
- No one is allowed to go in or out of the building until law enforcement alerts administrators it is safe.
Do not come to the school until the Secure has been lifted. You will not be allowed inside. Being outside the school while it is in Secure may put you at risk of harm or could impede police/staff response to the issue.
Lockdown
If you've been notified your child's school is in a Lockdown, that means:
- Hallways have been cleared. Rooms are secured and doors are locked.
- Students move out of sight and are quiet. Lights are turned off.
- Students remain in rooms or areas until the "All Clear" is announced
- No one is allowed to go in or out of the building until law enforcement alerts administrators it is safe.
Do not come to the school until the Lockdown has been lifted. You will not be allowed inside. Being outside the school while it is in Lockdown may put you at risk of harm or could impede police/staff response to the issue.
Hold
Evacuate
Shelter
If you've been notified your child's school is going to Shelter, that means:
- Adults will be leading students to use the appropriate safety strategy for the given hazard.
- Hazards that may require Shelter and their respective safety strategy include:
- Tornado - Evacuate to shelter area
- Hazardous Material(s) - Seal the room
- Earthquake - Drop, cover and hold
Eagle Ridge Academy and emergency response agencies in Adams County use the five Standard Response Protocols for emergency response. ERA conducts monthly drills to practice these protocols.
Emergency Response
One of the most critical elements of school safety is understanding how school staff and first responders will act during an emergency. At ERA, we take emergency planning seriously and work with staff, district leaders, and first responders to ensure students and staff are prepared for the unexpected.
Communications During an Emergency
During an incident, information will be sent out through the school's mass notification system. To ensure you receive notifications for your child’s school, make sure your contact information is kept up to date in Infinite Campus. You can do this by logging into your IC Parent Portal account or contacting your child’s school office.
Information may also be available on our website and social media accounts, based on the type and severity of the incident. We recommend following the official social media accounts of the school district and your child’s school.
Please do not reach out to the school or district during an active incident. Communications will be sent out as soon as possible as the situation unfolds.
Other Safety Information
At ERA, we have different teams that go through trainings to respond to different safety emergencies.
SERT: Safety and Emergency Response Team (A group of staff that ensure we keep up with safety standards and procedures as well as respond to all emergencies)
MRT: Medical Response Team (A group of staff medically trained by our district nurse for all medical emergencies.)
TA: Threat Assessment Team (A group of staff is trained in the Adams County Threat Assessment and attend annual safety seminars on it.)
How you can keep your student safe
Everyone in our community plays an important role in school safety. It is important that students and families feel empowered to report any behaviors or incidents that seem worrisome.
Please reinforce with your child that if they see anything suspicious, or if they have concerns about their safety or the safety of someone else, they can talk to a trusted teacher or administrator. Students are also encouraged to report information anonymously through Safe2Tell.
If you receive a notification that there is an incident at your child’s school, follow these steps:
Stay Home
If there is an active incident at a school, do not go to the school unless you are advised that it is safe to do so. Going to a school during an emergency may endanger you, students, and/or staff. During an active incident, first responders will need to be able to quickly get to the school and control the area around the campus. Families going to the school may hinder first responder efforts. While we understand that parents want to be on site as soon as possible for their children, families should wait until they are given the go-ahead to go to the school.
Keep Informed
Be ready
During an emergency, families will receive instructions with updates. Be prepared to follow guidance which may include where and how students will be reunited with their families. If a reunification is required, you will need to have photo identification with you to pick up your child. Please be patient while waiting for updates and information. The school, district, and first responders are working first and foremost to keep students and staff safe and will provide the community with accurate communication as soon as possible.
