Biology is the study of living organisms.  It includes the study of the structure, metabolism, development, behavior, and history of living things.  This course is a laboratory/lecture course that introduces students to general biology. A variety of concepts are covered, including biological chemistry, the cell, photosynthesis and cellular respiration, heredity and genetics, protein synthesis, evolution, taxonomy, and ecology. The overall goal of this course is that students will be able to apply an understanding of fundamental biological processes to explain the properties of living organisms. In addition, this course will strengthen students’ abilities to apply scientific thinking and problem solving to explain the natural world.
